Enchanting table registers block diagonally above the bookshelves as blocking said bookshelf

Enchanting tables usually do a pretty good job at detecting when one or multiple of its bookshelves are blocked off by another block, but if on a 16 bookshelves enchanting setup you place blocks diagonally adjacent to the enchanting table and the bookshelves (as seen in the screenshots I provided), somehow, the game thinks this is invalid.

From what I know, bookshelves should only be blocked off if a block is between them and the enchanting table, this would make sense if the bookshelves were 1 block higher or if the blocks were 1 block lower but not here.

If this is intentional behavior, may I suggest changing this? Even for Minecraft logic, this hardly makes sense. And it's a bit annoying as well.

I don't think this is strictly a duplicate of MC-2474. It's problem is that certain blocks prevent access to bookshelves depending on the block type. In my screenshots, you can see that between the enchanting table and the bookshelves, there is nothing but air, so going by pure MC logic, this setup should work. But I have slabs and trapdoors 1 block above this air and this somehow is a problem to the enchanting table.

Confirmed.

Pretty sure the old behavior was intended (since a block there would be in the way of the path the particles travel in). SOME of the particles appear from the top surface of the bookshelves and travel in a curved path to the top surface of the enchanting table. If a block is diagonally up from the bookshelf it's in the way of the particle flow.

Granted SOME of the particles come out the side of the bookshelves, but even those ones need to travel to the top surface of the enchanting table, so a full block above the air between the bookshelves and the table would block those particles too.

Or should we open a new bug report stating that the particles have always travelled wrong and it should be a straight line from the side of the bookshelf to the side of the enchanting table? That would mean enchanting tables have ALWAYS had the wrong particle path and it's been a bug since 2011.
