lost tamed cat after sleeping

Unless I'm doing something wrong and can't figure it out but I've lost 4 cats in the last day.  Decided I wanted to try taming some and found 3 stuck in some water, ended up breeding two of them so came back to my base with 4.  Went to bed with one on my chest and walking around the next day noticed only 1 was following me.  Walked a distance and only the one teleported to follow me.  Went to a local village and tamed a new cat so had 2 following me, went to bed that night with both sleeping on me and woke up to only the newest tamed cat remaining
