i am getting the same when i upgrade my old 1.17.1 world to 1.19. neither the deep dark or ancient cities are generating beneath new chunks, despite dripstone caves and lush caves still generating underneath.
I am also seeing this problem after upgrading my 1.17.1 server to 1.19. The Deep Dark biome is not generating anywhere under the older chunks except in Ancient City structures (which do appear to be generating correctly).
i did more of my own testing, and it seems that the ancient cities are actually generating properly under the world, but the deep dark biome isn't.
I updated my 1.18 world and had the problem with no deep dark biome in new unexplored chunks, but I did get ancient cities. I created a new 1.19 world and it has the same problem.
Dupe of MC-172449
@Moesh - the title of this ticket is that the Deep dark is not being created in existing worlds. I don't see how this is resolved. See my comment above for my issue.
@Moesh - I don't think this is the same issue as MC-172449. This issue is about the Deep Dark biome only generating in ancient city structures. The locate command is just used to help illustrate the issue.
Though I understand the mix-up since there seem to be a mixture of different scenarios being reported. Some comments seem to imply that it's affecting new chunks when upgrading from 1.18, while others (including me) are reporting it as affecting new caves underneath old chunks when upgrading from 1.17.
If the Deep Dark isn't actually supported in that 1.17 -> 1.19 upgrade scenario, I would understand, but I would expect it to be closed as working as designed rather than as a duplicate.
Looks like MC-172449, old chunks don't have the biome, but the command still returns those positions.
