Breaking a map that was previously in an item frame does not remove the green marker.
First two attached photos are from 1.19, (the map I'm holding shows the green marker, despite not being in an item frame) the 3rd and 4th photos are from 1.18, where the green marker gets removed after the map is broken/removed.
In both cases, I am playing vanilla, with no added mods/datapacks.
