The new animal in the genus Camelus is named after the wrong species.

(This will affect snapshot 22w42a and above, not 1.19.2)

Hello there. As we know, a new mob has recently started to be added to the game. But is named camel, wich is used to name the singular specific species the camel, or the genus where both camels and dromedaries. To put it simply; I think that the mob Camel should be named Dromedary.

Because it is true that this new animal is in the genus Camelus, but I really think that we should name it after what species it is, and not what genus it belongs to. Because i do not think that players are going to conscious think of the camelid genus, (wich is a part of the family Camelidae), when they see this bright long-legged ungulate with a singel hump. I would think that players would unconsciously expect to see the name of the species of the mobs they see.

It may be that Mojang has decided to go for an broad, more familiar word, which may also be a little easier to use in English. But there are a difference between those three species of camels; the Camelus bactrianus: Camel/Bactrian camel, Camelus ferus: Wild bactrian camel and Camelus dromedarius: dromedary. And that difference is clear enough in English to name those after their proper names, and not a name from a-also-known-as-name.

There are already some confusion to what the difference between the species Camel and the Species dromadary is in some languages like English, so i do not think that it would be any good that players in all ages using the English language in game, to get the name of the genus, or a completely different species, constantly displayed as the name for this specific species.

Because this is not at all about other cultures and languages. This is only about English. Other languages should translate as it fits best with their language and culture, regardless what the English speakers would have called it. Other communities should translate as it fits their language the best, whatever it tips towards camel or dromedary, or something unknown for us.

I feel that calling it by its genus name camel is like naming the mob panda as bear, or the mob pig as swine, or name us humans as hominidae; great apes.

Or almost like calling the mob panda as Sloth bear, or the mob pig as boar, or name us humans as chimpanzee. They are both in each example are closely related, but still different.

It is still early in the development. The sooner they could change the name to the species instead, the better. Especially before it reaches all players when 1.20 itself comes out.

I wonder how the situation about this is. If it is resolved, then why. Why would it be correct to call the entity Camel?
