I tried to pick up a dead player's items while I was in creative mode and apparently if you have a full hotbar, the items just get deleted.
Seems to be the same as this issue I found by web searching: MC-8409
"Resolution: Works As Intended"
This has got to be a joke right? How is this the intended behavior?

That makes sense but since this "feature" isn't widely known, everyone I've seen just uses the delete slot manually through the inventory ui or makes a lava pit.
But the biggest reason this feels like a bug to me is that a survival player died next to me while I was in creative and my inventory immediately deleted all of their enchanted items. I remade some of their stuff but they had named all their stuff and it took forever to remake everything and then they haven't been back since.
Now I know how to avoid this, but it's very counterintuitive so hopefully we can at least get some kind of warning/messaging that creative mode inventory.
Thanks!
I'll resolve this as a duplicate of MC-8409.
The reason for why this is happening is not documented. I believe the reason could be that it's possible to spawn an infinite amount of items in Creative mode, and cleaning these items up should be straightforward. And since you're in Creative mode, losing items is not a big deal since you can spawn in any item you want very easily.
However I'll ask Mojang again whether this is behaviour they want to keep or not, as it indeed is kind of counterintuitive. If they decide they want to revert their decision, MC-8409 will be reopened.
