When the player deletes the last and only singeplayer world they have, the game will show the "Preparing for world creation..." screen, but take the player to an empty list of worlds.
Steps to Reproduce:
(First ensure you only have one world inside the Singleplayer screen/your .minecraft/saves folder)
Highlight/click on the world (do not join it)
Delete the world
Expected Results:
The player should be taken to the world creation screen, as it's what they were told they were being sent to, and there is no point in sending the player to an empty world list when the only option they have is to create a new world. Notably, the player is sent to the world creation screen after opening the 'Singleplayer' menu when they have no worlds.

Oh, so it goes to "Preparing new world" then fails and takes you directly to the singleplayer menu (empty world list)?
So it showed the preparing world creation for like 10ms
(very quick, but yeah i thik it tries to create it but figurs out that its not empty and then cancels it)
Can confirm in 1.20.3 Pre-Release 2, although the issue may be something different here. Normally, the screen is shown when the player enters the Singleplayer screen for the first time, and then will open the world creation screen. In this case, the message is shown but instead it takes you to an empty worlds list. The expected behavior here would not be that the message would not be present, but instead that you would be taken to the world creation screen as there's no worlds.
(I'm aware my previous comment contridicts this comment, I had misunderstood the issue a bit)
Here are videos showcasing the behavior:

I've written an updated description for this issue, as the one currently is fairly barebones
Title:
This is more of a suggestion for clarity, and I think it still fits within the original scope. The issue is less about how the screen is shown, but instead that the next screen shown does not make much sense.

Is the world you deleted the only world you have?
