Left click pauses game

What I expected to happen was...:
Life clicking on my trackpad (not a mouse) should break blocks 

What actually happened was...:
It brings me to the pause menu

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch MC 1.20
2. Open world
3. Left click

note: I tried resetting keybinds and looking at mouse settings. no dice.
