Land animals not spawning after world creation

World seed: -921813758333000636

In a survival world using this seed, I was able to find groups of land animals (cows, chickens, sheep, etc.) that spawned with the world creation in several locations (taiga and plains biomes, namely). However, after killing those animals for starting resources, they have yet to respawn. Monsters and sea creatures appear to be spawning normally.

Passive mobs (animals) are spawned when the world is first generated, and while they do respawn naturally, this happens at a very slow rate compared to hostile mobs. The most likely explanation is simply that not enough time has passed for any passive mobs to respawn. (See MC-193254)

I've spent the vast majority of my time so far in one area in a taiga region building a base, and nothing yet has spawned; occasionally I've made a "day trip" to a nearby plains biome, staying there nearly sunrise to sunset. All told, this is probably around 10+ hours of game play, with nothing spawned.

This is very inconsistent from Bedrock, which I've played in the past; in that version, while I wouldn't expect to be surrounded by chickens and whatnot during one of those "day trips", I'd at least expect to see a handful of passive mobs somewhere nearby.

In terms of the mention of Bedrock parity here, there haven't been any major changes to the way passive mobs spawn within recent versions, so it would fall out of our bounds for accepting this as a parity issue.

Regardless, @unknown's comment offers the most likely explanation – even though you mentioned that you spent a significant amount of time there, it's still very possible that you just got unlucky.

If you'd like, attaching an F3 screenshot to this report could possibly help in determining another possible cause for this issue. For now, I'll close this as Invalid.
