Launcher makes desktop unusable when offline in OSX

Launcher: v.2.8.2-1.3.7?  (launcher main page) OR 1.3.7 (1) from About

Behavior:

When not connected to the internet, the launcher continually fails, closes, and relaunches itself, taking the screen focus back each time, making the device unusable without rebooting.  Ironically it's not even feasible to join a network while it's doing this.  I let it run for about 30 second and it didn't stop on its own.

Use case:

Traveling with the kids and trying to play Minecraft to pass the time, without access to wifi.

Thank you!  I did see MCL-23741, but I do not think it's related because in this case the launcher works fine unless it's not connected to a network, and this involved some other behaviors like the incessant restart after the failure, which made the laptop unusable until it was rebooted or the user was forced to log out.  I'll check and see if I can repeat it after following the fix steps in MCL-23741.

i moved my data directory off and overwrote the minecraft install with a fresh download and am still getting the issue.  to reproduce, just try to run the launcher without a network connection and it will continually fail and retry, taking the screen focus each time.  i can't even get the wifi back on while it's trying to launch.

Please reopen this issue, since it is distinct from the one it's been labeled a duplicate of.
