Game has no audio, closes with exit code -1073740791

The game starts, apparently, without problems. But as soon as the home screen appears, the background landscape scene moves slowly/lag and without sound. The same thing happens when I access a world: everything moves slowly/lag and there is no audio.

When exiting the game, the following error message appears, which I show in the screenshot. Since the error code suggested a problem with my graphics card, I proceeded to update drivers for my GTX GForce 2060 but the error persists. I also attach the error log generated by Minecraft.

I have seen this problem for 2 days.

I have searched for this problem but the reports I have seen mentioned the case for Android but in my situation it is with Windows.

If there is an error in my writing, please forgive me. My English is not very good.

Error with audio seems to be coming from:

This seems to explain the issue with the sound. Using Control-F on the log, this error is found over 1000 times.

Looks like a issue with the users sound card, possibly a faulty device (eg, broken headphones, speakers), the device could be plugging in and out 100's of times a second.

There are different types of the same error throughout the log.

Another issue might be:

[Info: 2023-09-30 06:33:19.6518824: MinecraftJavaLoggingContext.cpp(52)] Launcher/monitor (Process Monitor) Fatal Process crashed with exit code -1073740791

This is printed 33 times in the log, possibly a issue with the users internet? Although, this page is also a 404 for me. The user my be using a outdated launcher, that may be requesting old removed pages?

I can't find a issue related to a GPU in the log.

NguyenFranky

1. Please put only 1 issue in a report.
2. Lag without a reason will be "Invalid".
3. This is a technical support issue, this site is for bug reports only.

Marchelino84

I have not been able to take time to verify the operation of both the video card and the sound card with another game. But so far my equipment is working fine.

I'm watching videos and listening to music without a problem.

Due to the number of times/sec of error it appears in the log, I'm thinking that this could be the reason for the "lag" that I appreciate.

I am not experiencing problems with my internet connection. And I don't play on servers, only local.

NguyenFranky I apologize if I have not been too clear in reporting the problem.

I didn't know whether to deal with the lag and sound problems separately or together. Since I am not sure if both phenomena are related.

I agree that the term "lag" may not have been the most appropriate. My fault. What I really notice is that the game runs slowly, the mere fact of walking or turning means that the movement is not fluid, but clumsy/stuck. Notice that I play locally, I do not connect to servers.

I have updated the Launcher; supposedly. Every time I start it it checks for updates.

Marchelino84

I have checked the audio and video drivers. And they are both fine.

I've played other games, and they all work well.

I have tried making a backup, and reinstalling version 1.20.2 (not snapshot) and it still has the same problem. Possibly the same thing must be happening to others, although I have not seen other reports of this type.

Due to the error that has been mentioned before and can be seen in the log, which is occurring too frequently/sec, the game is experiencing this "lag" problem. Both effects are related. I have attached a screenshot in a test world in which I design my buildings. The world is completely flat (using the "redstone ready" template) and I barely have 2 medium builds and nothing else. You can see that the fps are 1 to 2. Impossible to play like this.

ajffsodp

I think it might be a PC problem; are you using a gaming computer?

Marchelino84

ajffsodp I have already mentioned that I have tried other games and the equipment works correctly. It's not a PC, it's a notebook.

It's not so "gaming" but I think what I have is quite reasonable:

Procesador: AMD Ryzen 7 4800H with Radeon Graphics 2.90 GHz
RAM: 16 GB
Graphic Card: NVIDIA Geforce GTX 2060

Marchelino84

Well, I have found a new development in the case.

I generally play with low volume (20%) and rarely use headphones. My surprise was that raising the volume to 100% and then returning to the usual volume restored the sound and the "lag" disappeared.

In principle, this solves the problem. But when I exit the game I still get the error message.

I am attaching new log files.

I have tried making a new world (in creative) to better appreciate the performance. I didn't experience lag.

From what I have seen in the log, the same problem continues in Warn Missing sound for event: minecraft:entity.goat.screaming.horn_break. That makes me think that if I found a goat I might not experience that sound, or worse... the game would crash. 😞

I ask, is it justified to open a specific error ticket for this problem (sound), and another for the error screen (error code -1073740791), or would it be enough to leave this one open?

TheRealMaxefaxe

I got this problem too.

Marchelino84

@TheRealMaxefaxe  do you have sound in the game? The only way I have gotten sound is by raising the volume to 100% and returning to the initial value. This causes the sound to be restored and the lag to disappear. I have to admit that I have not tried spawning a goat to see if its sounds can be reproduced. The error seen in my log suggests that there are problems there. What worries me is the error code that appears when I close Minecraft. Does it happen to you too?

fuse222

Exact same issue here. Start the game and can see menu is lagging. No different in game, it'll be lagging like crazy with no audio. I've found sometimes it will randomly load in without lag and let me play, but if I quit the game and go back on it'll be back to lagging/audioless. If I launch minecraft with another game open, it plays with sound and no lag so not sure what the deal is. PC is powerful enough to run the game so no issue with that.

TheRealMaxefaxe

I now got a way to fix the bug for Windows;

Press Windows + Shift + S : this will open the snipping tool

Create a screenshot from your Minecraft: if everything works, there is a message in the right corner

No more lags!

Marchelino84

TheRealMaxefaxe Do you play with any sound source running in addition to the game? By any chance when you finish the game you get the error code -1073740791? I am trying to faithfully determine if there is a correlation between the lag, the audio problem and the error message to make a better report of the case so that the people at Mojang take it into account and analyze them as a single big problem. Or do you just have lag and audio problems? I have problems with 3 things: lag, audio and the error message.

[MOD] Greymagic27

I've reopened this report and changed the title to reflect the issue better

Marchelino84

Well. I have carried out new tests. This time I had the music player running previously. I started the game, and there was no lag and the sounds from both the music player and the game could be heard. Closing Minecraft also didn't give me the error window -1073740791.
All while the music player was running.
The bug definitely arises when you start the game without having the device playing some other sound.

The test was done using the notebook's speakers. No headphones were used at any time.
I attach an illustrative photo of how the fps are within the expected values and the player working simultaneously. And I also add a new copy of the logs during this test.

Guy

@beano your issue sounds like a Java issue. Does your computer user profile name have anything that is NOT A-Z, a-z, 0-9?

If your computer user name has any non-english characters in it, or punctuation (except spaces) that would be the cause of your issue.

and the messages below.

In summary, with Marchelino84, in addition to their earlier comments, they have also tried scanning with Avast and trying to update audio and video drivers. They have tried resetting their .minecraft data folder. We have also scanned with adwcleaner and run dism, sfc, and chkdsk scans. I've also asked them to generate a dxdiag report which they have also attached.

Jaromajn

I found two solutions of the issue, thanks to which, you will be able to play the game:

1) like Marchelino84 said, when you play music file (for example by winamp) and then open the game
2) when you change something in ingame narrator options
Of course problem still persist, exit code error nr 1073740791 is there. At least you can play the game without lag and with sound

[MOD] Greymagic27

Please see if community support can help resolve this. It may be driver related and it's something that would be good to confirm

Marchelino84

Hello. Greymagic27.
I have not had free time to play again and carry out new tests, but as far as I have been able to verify with the community on Discord, as David Wang has commented, it does not seem to be a hardware problem. At least in my case.
Everything on my computer works correctly and is up to date.

And as I said before, in my last test, as long as I have a program making sound before running Minecraft, no errors occur.

Everything seems to indicate that there is a problem in version 1.20.2 because it did not occur before.

Guy

Hi @Marchelino84 , have you tried uninstalling your graphics card driver completely, then reinstalling it? This process is called a DDU (Display driver uninstall). Greymagic suggested this to someone in this Minecraft Discord server today - someone who had the same error log as you - and it fixed the issue for them. Link to their message, since you are in there

If this Discord link isn't appropriate, a mod can remove it. However, I do believe that it is with good intentions.

Marchelino84

@Guy No. I didn't do DDU. What I did is a reinstallation, but without deleting first. I can't test it right now, I'm very busy. Maybe I can take the test over the weekend.

Marchelino84

I haven't had time to do DDU, but tonight I tried starting the game after several days. The Launcher has been updated and has proceeded to download the new minor version/subrelease of 1.20.2. And the game started with sound, there was no lag. At the end of the game the error message -1073740791 did not appear either. Obviously they have fixed it among the bugfixes of this latest update because I have not made any changes to the drivers, or GPU, or anything.

blackcanyon45

I have very similar issues since the October updates, only no volume issues.  Here is a copy of the info I sent to tech support.  They advise that my issue is a BUG and they have directed me here.

When this entire MESS started... I was only running 1 launcher that was downloaded from minecraftinstaller.msi.  I NEVER used X-box or any other launcher update from over 2 years ago when I first started playing.  The crashes were already happening with just 1 launcher as I contacted you guys last week.  There is something wrong with either your latest update or the Windows October update or both of them not integrating with my Nvidia driver (WHICH IS TOTALLY UP TO DATE), as I have stated at least 4 times in all these text replies.

#2) I only installed the 3 launcher files from X-box because I did not know which one to use and your tech support replies DID NOT tell me which one I should use.  I ONLY launch the one Minecraft Java Edition Launcher from the X-box page.  I will be more than happy to uninstall all the launchers... X-box... everything the last 3 replies from tech support told me to do.  I never wanted to go that route anyway.  I do not play on Bedrock.  I do not own an X-box.  But if I have to go back that route again... WHICH LAUNCHER AM I SUPPOSED TO USE?

#3) Which is going to bring me full circle to where I started when I first contacted you guys a week ago.  I have already cleared all my Minecraft file folders by hand 2 dozen times; using both the uninstall feature if available or going directly into the file manager and doing it myself.  I have already reinstalled the minecraftinstaller.msi launcher a dozen times with and without the X-box link.  It CRASHES and will NOT play correctly movement-wise after it crashes.  I have already reinstalled the minecraftinstaller.exe launcher the second dozen times with and without the X-box link.  It ALSO CRASHES and will not play correctly with moving through my world once it crashes.  Exit code error 1073740791

CURRENT SITUATION:  as of November 6, 2023 - I have had success running the launcher as long as I only save the game file.  If I leave the launcher open from day to day... things work.  BUT if I close the launcher even once, if will go back to the error code and game lagging play issues.  Hope this helps... Janice

spettit50859

In my instance, just having Windows Media Player open before launching the game prevents the bug from happening, and the game exits normally with no error code.  It makes me wonder if there isn't something going on between Windows <>DirectSound <> OpenAL <> Minecraft.

rick8225

I play with NVDIA GTX4070Ti.
The problem is resolved after updating graphics driver to ver.546.29 in 1.20.2 and 1.20.3 .

spettit50859

The issue disappeared for me in the 1.20.3 release candidate snapshots.  It remains banished.

However, I had updated my video drivers and audio drivers in an attempt to fix this prior to reporting, which did not solve the issue.

GrenadeGod

Hi, I have a similar problem and the same exit code however my game closes 20 seconds after opening it no matter what I do. I tried updating my graphic card drivers and all other procedures but I got no results. I said the problem is similar just because of the exit code... My game gets force closed and my sound works just fine same as my fps. It's just the same exit code -1073740791

Hello, I have just made a discovery! I have found - trough checking the game output provided in the launcher - my recording software crashed at the same time my game did, and I uninstalled it just now. That solved the problem. The recording software I used was Outplayed. Not specifically made for recording this type of games, so I figured it could be the issue. I removed it and now everything works just fine.

CrazyEnderman99

Im having some of the same similar issues but yeah each time i move around in-game or break any blocks i either get hit with the exit code -1073740791 or it comes up with a Java Exception_Violation_Error or it comes up with a Java Stack_Buffer_Overflow error message and so idk where exactly to go from here, i downgraded my graphics card a few versions back and that had no effect on it and this happens across multiple variants of the Java Minecraft Launcher everything from MultiMc to The AT Launcher so idk if theres a solid fix for this issue yet, anyways heres my crash log from the official Minecraft Launcher:

Minecraft support sent me here, and im very upset with this bug. This code keep showing up and crashing the game no matter what I do, I cannot get it to work, I updated my drivers, i reloaded older drivers to see if the would work, none of them did, i dont use any recording programs, I tried updating java's JDK, I updated my BIOS, I tried putting more RAM, I ran multiple commands on my computer, and I even did a full reset on my computer, its just insane, since I boughtt a new motherboard and upgraded my computer to a AMD Ryzen 7 5800 i cannot play the game anymore which, for me, is the only thing that could be the problem since the reporter CPU is a similiar one. This code keep showing up and crashing the game no matter what I do.

As of today my Minecraft: Java Edition is launching with no audio and when I close the game I get the same error message as the OP with the same exit code: -1073740791

I'm not running any mods, additional shaders or resource packs

I have rolled back to the February drivers and the issue persists.

I have disabled the GeForce experience video recording and the issue persists

I have completely uninstalled/reinstalled Minecraft Launcher and Minecraft: Java and the issue persists.

Hello guys, im back here for some big updates on my case, in my previous contact i was not being able to play or even some times launch the vanila game, no additions, and I tried everything I could. The way I solved the problem was checking my computer pieces. The problem started when I bought a new CPU, a AMD Ryzen 7 5800, but the problem stated to be GPU related. so, I borrowed my brothers GPU and tested, no results, then I went back online for research and it turned out to be a incompat with my RAM, which was kinda old and my CPU wasnt having it. So I borrowed a new one from a friend for testing and it worked, now I bought a new one and everything is working properly. So, I strongly suggest doing these type of tests.

I get this crash a lot, it becomes more frequent around my base and village with higher than natural generated entity count, also when I am at my storage room handling items, moving them in and out of boxes, sometimes as soon as 2 minutes after starting the game, sometimes I can play for hours. The game just simply freezes for a second and gives me the crash screen with no warning or anything suspicious in log or F3 menu. Upon reloading the game after said crash I discover that the world data is up to date being no older than a few seconds before crash, but the player data that has my inventory lags minutes behind, usually resulting in item loss (and duplication) in my survival and hardcore world.

Minecraft Java Edition 1.20.4, 1.20.5, 1.20.6 bug still persists on all 3 versions

Hi, I've also been having this issue but I play in 1.8.9. I'll be playing and my game will randomly crash with this error code.

Sk_orpion9

I have this exact same issue. Updated my drivers, but not aware of any recording software on my pc that could be causing problems.

Jedi_Avenger

Found a work around for playing new versions missing audio. Load up an older version 1.20.1 or older, but keep the launcher & game open on the main menu. Then load up the new version, the audio should then work. Close out the old version, and play the new version.

Makadamiadio

Issue is still unresolved as of today. After months of break I decided to play Minecraft again, -1073740791 exit code yet again.

I am seriously considering getting some kind of refund as I could not even play Minecraft normally this entire year. As soon as I've had the world on for more than 10 minutes and then start moving items in and out of chests the game crashes, usually leading to me losing said items that I have taken out of the chests.

daco00

I want to update my situation, my computer has Windows 10 Pro and I just uninstalled everything to install Windows 11 and the error remains, I asked the Minecraft moderators to give me another solution other than waiting to see when it can be solved, I want play another version prior to the one purchased in the store, which was 1.21, but it is not possible.

I've uninstalled OBS, and the drivers in my Graphic card using DDU and reinstalling the latest drivers but the crashes persist and when I click on the "more information" link there's no information bout how to solve the issue. I don't know what to do I've tried tracking the problem with the logs from the launcher and the .minecraft folder even the latest one but there's no ERROR or FATAL before the crushes it just stops the game. I've deleted Minecraft and reinstalled it but it didn't work either. I'm going to include my PC components my last log and the crash report. Hope you can help me.

SOLUTION!!!

Hello, weeks ago I reported the same error that most of us in this post are having. However, I read a comment from another user who is down here which gave a link to a Reddit that talked about motherboard drivers. I followed the step by step to update the BIOS of my motherboard and the game is working fine for me, however, I wait for the days to pass and I will inform you of any news.

TacticalBazooka

Ok, after dealing with this for 3+ days I have a temporary solution. Have another source of audio play while opening Minecraft, I've got it to work pretty consistently but I do hope that they fix this soon

jelder27

Adding more info here - I logged a ticket and it was closed as a duplicate of this one.

I have version 1.21.4 of Minecraft Java and have recently started getting both the no sound issue and the crash code mentioned in this ticket.

I have tried deleting old versions and reinstalling Minecraft Java. I've checked the sound mixer and tried sound options in Minecraft itself. The only way I can get sound to work is to open Minecraft whilst I'm playing a YouTube video - and then I don't get the crash code. This tells me that Minecraft isn't connecting to my sound options properly.

I've also checked my graphics and sound drivers, all are the latest they should be.

Other games - House Flipper 1 and 2,Jurassic World Evolution 2 work fine.

FYI, I work as an IT system engineer, so I'm sure I've exhausted all options and this is a Minecraft issue.

scorrp10

After some examining, it appears the issue only affects USB audio devices, and dependent on the quality of the USB port they are plugged into.

Minecraft version 1.20.1 and older - no issue.    Releases 1.20.2 onward (up to 1.21.4), sound may work occasionally, but more often not.

The only audio devices affected appear to be those over USB.   The on-motherboard Realtek sound works.   Nvidia audio (speakers in the monitor) works.   Logitech Pro-X wireless USB headset did not work.

However, plugging the headset receiver into a different USB 3.0 port appears to have fixed the issue.   Of note, however, is that the headset worked just fine for all other applications, even when receiver was plugged into a slower port.

PNKeo

Currently having this issue, using my old auxiliary plug headphones seems to fix it, usb headphones cause this to happen at least the majority of the time.

Kinda sucks cause the headphones I got for Christmas are the usb ones but yeah, hopefully this gets fixed.

Turbo Soggy

I am having this issue, as well. This is definitely an issue with USB headphones, which I am using. I'm surprised a bug as big as this isn't really being given any attention. Surely plenty of people use USB headphones?

kyburg60

I'm affected by this too.  Switched to a non-USB headset and problem gone.

Sintarow

I am also having this issue with my USB headset in both wireless and wired mod (Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE Gaming Headset).

The headset works when using the latest snapshot(which is unstable) but not the latest release of 1.21.4.

enyo5747

When I click to enter my world on single player the game is crashing and it shows me the error "-1073740791". The client is working normaly witch makes me to think that the problem lies within the Java itself.

alaan_29

Hi, I have the same problem and the issue affects to 1.12.2 version too with mods or not. In fact, I recommend you to check control panel of your pc because in that register you can see that Minecraft app crash. I don't know if this problem depens on your account, something related to windows 11 or broken updates/drivers, I'm very confused due to I try to open Minecraft in my laptop with windows 10 and it works correctly. In my case, at the beggining, I didn't have any sound in the game, but when I opened Windows audio settings, I chose to change predetermined sound exit to my Logitech G935 and it worked to listen the game, but the issue stills.

My PC components are:

-Ryzen 5 7600X

-NVIDIA RTX 3060 12GB
