so in the launcher i can see im logged into minecraft and have my skins selected and when i press play when i then try to join a server it says (failed to log in: the authentication servers are currently not reachable please try again) and if i then make a singleplayer world then my skin is automatically set to the kai skin but my skin is still selected btw its every version it just wont let me select a different version

Your issue is about 2 different issues. One is the joining server problem, another one is the skin problem, which already be tracked at MC-101579.
Invalid (or Duplicate) because of multiple issues in 1 issue.
