If you are far enough away from your spawnpoint (such as a few thousand blocks for example, and no one else is near you to keep your chunks loaded), you have tamed wolves around you (even if they are standing and otherwise able to teleport), and you die, then they will not teleport back to you (presumably because the chunk unloads before they are able to do so).
Steps to reproduce:
Teleport really far away without setting your spawnpoint
Tame a few dogs (or just one)
Die
What I expected:
The wolves would teleport back to me
What I observed:
They did not
