Mace attacks create particles if the attacked mob is in the air above a non-solid block

How to reproduce

  1. Create always active repeat command block, and write this command to it:

    execute as @e[type=minecraft:bogged] run attribute @s minecraft:generic.gravity base set 0
  2. Summon bogged one block directly above soul flame or glow lichen sticking to the floor and make it immobile in some way.

  3. Smash attack hits the summoned bogged.

Observed result

When the soul flame is 1 block below, fragments of the soul flame will scatter, and when the glow lichen is 1 block below, fragments of the glow lichen will scatter.

Expected result

No explosive particles when there is no block or non-solid block on which the entity stands.

Can you add the behavior you observed and the behavior you expect to see here? Is this problem new to 1.20.5-pre2, or did this exist in an earlier snapshot? If so, do you know when it was introduced?

turbo, this is affected 24w13a(mace's explosive particle effect was added) or newer.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.

Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
