The mob is supposed to get his the very second that you click on them
what happens is there is a few seconds of delay before the mob gets hit
I think that there would be part of the coding where the mob hit detection is maybe set to 0.7 or 0.8 seconds, if its possible change it to 0.1 or 0.2 seconds

I assume you're playing on a server? This is likely an issue related to a slow internet connection, or a delay between client and server communication.
It's been like this since 1.3.2 when internal servers were added tgis happens with both Singleplayer and Multiplayer
