All block sounds in Minecraft have an origin of TileXYZ+0.5, including torches. This is fine for floor torches, however when placing torches on a wall slightly to your left or right, this causes the audio to sound like it's coming from the wrong side (as the centre of the block will be closer to that ear). Sound origins should be bias-able towards a direction (probably at the centre of the "block cursor outline"?)
Steps to Reproduce:
Stand next to wall.
Place torch or similar block on the wall next to you.
Observed result:
While the torch will be placed on the wall (i.e. to your left), the sound will appear to come from the opposite side (i.e. to your right).
Expected result:
The sound comes from where the torch was placed.

It is not, it's how the sound origin is placed in relation to the block and where you would be looking to place said block
this occurs with other tiles but its most commonly notable with torches, IE tunneling and placing a torch to your left/right will result in the sound coming from the opposite ear

Cannot reproduce any unusual result. When placing the torch on different wall faces, the sound appears to be coming from the correct location relative to the player's facing direction and position.
Can you verify that this is not a hardware issue with your audio device?
