Game freezes/crashes from error: "java.lang.IllegalStateException: Requested chunk unavailable during world generation" while data pack is installed.

For some reason my data pack is causing the game to freeze/crash when loading certain chunks.

To recreate the error:

  1. Create a new world with the seed set to: 8400069217514695303 and with the provided data pack installed.

  2. Run this command (should teleport you to a sunflower plains):

    /tp @s 475 88 72

After further testing and reading through crash logs, it appears this is being caused by the placed features "cynic:pond_sandy" and "cynic:pond_muddy". A different world created with the seed set to 6576703358490591178 caused the crash at around coords -2234, 79, 1160 (a swamp biome). An edited version of the data pack with the pond features removed from their respective biomes did not result in these crashes.

I'm glad I'm not the only one. I was working on updating an absolutely massive pack I've been working on off and on for years but kept crashing. I couldn't really figure it out, but custom biomes did seem to be where it occurred (some more consistently than others). I haven't been able to identify why though. I don't know if you've also experienced it this way, but it isn't a regular crash for me. I get a "Connection lost" one and the only button is "back to server list" as if it's the internal server only that died. If I hit that button it takes me to the server list but I'm in a weird limbo state. The world I was just using doesn't show up in the world list and I can't close the game without task manager (also menus have a black background instead of showing the blurred panorama). Relaunching the game returns the world to the world list.

I know of a server crash caused inexplicably by a custom pool feature in cherry groves, and I'm presently struggling with what I believe is a windswept custom pool feature crashing me, which is what led me here.

For me the crash was as Sniper1.1 mentioned, internal server appears to die and sends your game into limbo. Can't confirm if the cherry issue did that as well.

i don't know if this is a universal fix but i managed to stop the crashing by removing the "in_square" function from the features that were causing problems (lakes and random patches)

Nope 😞 It’s just weird that it can load some chunks, including ones with the feature and then it randomly breaks.

I take back what I said earlier. Maybe deltas are a problem. One of the overworld biomes I’ve been using has a delta with custom placement, but the configured feature itself is the vanilla one from basalt deltas. However, a custom nether biome with a custom delta still crashes. I thought I had confirmed custom deltas were ok by testing in an overworld biome with a custom delta, but it’s actually not a delta. It’s a waterlogged_vegetation_patch so I guess those are fine.

I’m betting it’s chunk boundaries somehow. Because I have a different datapack that does use a custom disk feature, but it’s small and only in the center of a chunk. It never crosses the edge.

Well, just tested with making that disk cross chunk boundaries and I didn’t seem to have any issues.

This is still present in 25w15a but the odd thing is that it isn’t doing the weird disconnect thing. The game just becomes unresponsive now. Got -805306369 as an error code after closing. Here are the crash reports. Oddly one shows a custom biome failing with a block column which I thought was cleared, so I might have to look into that more.
