[MC-274380] enchantment not working in new update(i am using mods but none that affect items)

I was trying to put sharpness 4 on diamond axe and sword but none of their damage increased. axe sayed at 9 and sword stayed at 7

What I expected to happen was...:
that the weapons damage would increase

What actually happened was...:
stayed the same

Steps to Reproduce:
1. i found a sharpness book
2. put weapons and book into anvil
3. damage didnt increase

Also, your game, launcher or server is modified.
Issues that are reproduced in a non-vanilla environment are not accepted on the bug tracker.

Any non-standard client/server/launcher build needs to be taken up with the appropriate team, not Mojang.
A world which had previously been opened with a modified client might be corrupted. Please try reproducing the issue in a newly generated world.
Any plugin issues need to be addressed to the creator of the plugin or resource pack.
If you have problems on large servers like Hypixel, please contact them first as they run modified server software.
