1.21.1 Single Biome Ocean does not generate an Ocean

As it stands 1.21.1 Single Biome Generation does not generate just the biome you wish to generate.

As this is a ticket that is supposedly resolved and "works as intended" I am going to provide screenshots of that not being the case.

The image labeled as MC1 shows the generation seed set to 1. The actual generation setting for the single biome as I want it is set to a "Deep Lukewarm Ocean".

The Image labeled as MC2 is showing the actual generated landmass however. Including underwater ruins.

The Third image labeled as MC3 is showing the in world seed as it was generated using the settings as specified above.

This is a bug or issue or whatever it may be that has been a thing for a long time now. It is not working as intended. This is not a single ocean biome. Its an ocean thats not an ocean. Its a plains biome pretending to be an ocean.

I do apologize if my tone is rude. But this has been plaguing several versions and updates and has never been fixed. We want to use single ocean biome worlds where the ocean, the water of it is the only thing covering the world but are denied such by a simple "Was already resolved" when that simply is not the case.

Additionally, your game is modified in the screenshots (shaders are enabled). Issues reported on Mojira need to be reproduced in vanilla exclusively.

A. Yes I have shaders installed. They don't change world generation.

B. I gave you the steps to reproduce the issue. In written and visual form via screenshots.

The issue wasn't resolved and it does not work as intended and you clearly didn't even try the steps I provided in the comment itself.

Again, sorry for the tone, but the issue has been present for years. Many online complain about it. Me included cause we want true ocean worlds but can't have them cause you guys say it works as intended when it quite literally and verifiably so does not generate an ocean. In an ocean only biome. We got plains o plenty tho and mountains. But water? Puddles maybe yea.

I will as soon as I get up tomorrow get a full fresh clean install of 1.21 and post fresh screenshots and I know the answer I will get already. I'll do it anyhow and at this stage it's out of spite.

Either try the steps or admit that you guys don't know how to fix the problem. But stop saying it works as intended when many updates ago it worked and then broke as many users saw.

Doesn't matter. Modded instances of the game will lead to your issue being invalidated, whether the mod in question affects the bug or not (and even if it doesn't seem to affect the bug, how do you know for sure?). Please read the Bug Tracker Guidelines before reporting a bug next time.

MC-236884 (which is quite literally the same issue you are describing) was resolved as Works As Intended by Mojang, not by the bug tracker moderators. What is intended behavior and what is not is not for you or for us to decide; Mojang have decided that Single Biome worlds with the Ocean biome selected not always generating oceans is intended behavior, full stop.

Maybe you should look into Superflat presets.

This is still an issue at 1.21.4. I created a single world (Jan 20th 2025) warm ocean biome and there was land everywhere. This appears to be at odds with what blocks are meant to be available? All the land was sand over sandstone. Also the world appears to have no stronghold which makes a play though impossible.

I agree with ‘migrated’, this issue has not been resolved. The status should be changed.
