pale oak saplings cannot grow if there is pale hanging moss in its growth range, preventing tree growth, this shouldnt happen as it generates with part of the tree
how to replicate:
grow pale tree, and remove the bottom 4 logs and replace them with saplings, when bonemealing it won't grow, removal of the vines allows it to grow

exactly HOW did you replace the bottom four logs with saplings, when they can only be placed on dirt/grass? Did you use the /setblock command?
