When playing the newest version of Minecraft (1.6.2), I noticed that the player's hand does not show when holding a carpet. It still is present for all other blocks, maps, bows, etc. This bug is present in both creative and survival modes.
To replicate: Hold a block in your hand. Note that a block is in your hand. Switch to a carpet and nothing shows.
