Small and medium slimes and magma can damage players from unusally far away

In 1.21 with the fix of MC-272079 slimes and magma cubes were buffed so they would be able to damage iron golems. however, this also made it so now they can damage players from well over a block away, making it unusually difficult to hit them without getting hit yourself. They still have to basically be touching the iron golem to damage the iron golem though.

In this video from Gnembon, he says that (prior to 1.21) slimes can attack you any time their hitbox intersects yours. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42QvewJqKF0 however, prior to the fix the smallest ones attack radius was so small they would nudge the mob they were trying to attack out of their collision box before they managed to deal any damage. Note that Gnembon was not a Mojang employee at the time so this may not suggest this is the intended behavior, though neither the behavior before or after the fix of MC-272079 aligns with this and is inconsistent between players and iron golems either way.

Slimes and magma cubes should be able to damage players when their hitbox intersects or touches their target, and not from far away, thus there should be no reason why increasing their attack radius so they can reach iron golems also makes it so they can hit players from far away

Steps to reproduce

1. Spawn a slime of size 1

2. Enable hitboxes (F3+B)

3. Observe the slime damages the player from over a full block away ❌

4. Spawn an NoAI Iron Golem

5. Switch to creative mode

6. Observe the slime needs to basically be touching the iron golem to damage him

Expected results

Slimes would be able to damage both players and iron golems from the same distance (presumably when their collision boxes are touching)

Observed results

Slimes need to be touching iron golems to damage them ✔ , but can damage players from well over a block away ❌
