i'll place a map in a frame on the wall and the green location dot will appear. when i remove the map from the wall and look at the map in my inventory, the green dot will disappear.

Let me tell you, the green dot is there if the map is on frame.
From http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Map#History
"Notch said that he would try to make maps place-able on walls.[5] This feature was added with the addition of the item frame, making it possible to place maps on the wall. When placing a map into a item frame, the map will be shown and a green pointer will be placed at the location of the item frame."
right. in older versions though, when you removed the map from the wall the green dot stayed on the map. effectively giving you a marker point on the map to show you where your base was located.
with the new update, this feature went away.
my issue was with the green dot disappearing when the map is removed off the wall, which i stated rather plainly in my description. that is where the bug is.
if you guys are going to be tech support for a game, its not very helpful for issues to be cited as resolved when the correct issue thats being reported isnt even discussed. its not only lazy tech support and unhelpful, but is is misleading to consumers.
infact, not only is it lazy, but its also rude to ask a question of "where is the bug" and not wait for clarification from the question asker before marking the issue as resolved.
Where have you read this is technical support? It's a bug tracker. In fact the issue you described here was a bug fix. See MC-73.
Green arrow staying on the map after removing it from the item frame was a bug.
The reason why it seams its a lazy response is because the reason why the marker was on the map after being removed from an item frame on older versions was because it was not intended by Mojang to be part of the map feature. It in itself was a bug. the reason why it went away is because they fixed the bug. At the moment there isn't a way to place a marker on a map intentionally in game. While it would be a nice feature, it is still only a suggestion which would need to be posted on the suggestion page of the Minecraftforums.
Also this isn't a consumer advocating/advertising website. while it is based for a game, its general Public help on bugs you may see. Basically its not misleading consumers in a direct or intentional way, its just the nature of what this site is for (i.e. Public help)
The mods are very aware of what is and isn't a bug. In the end they are still human and can easily mis read a sentence and not understand what is being stated.
given the fact that this site is directly linked in the java app to load the game as a bug and glitch reporting site alludes to the fact that this site is for tech support. as tech support is the place you contact when your game is not working correctly.
i agree that we are all human and that mistakes are made on both parts, but it is still not kosher to respond in the comments "wheres the bug" and close the thread as resolved before the thread originator can clarify what they are asking about, as the post "wheres the bug" is obviously asking for more clarification.
if this marker was originally a bug (a feature which has been in my version of minecraft since i purchased the game in November 2012) then the better response would have been to respond with this info rather than asking for more clarification and closing the issue before i get a chance to respond.
this coupled with how my other issue is being handled, is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth in reguards with how your company handles issues with this game. while this issue may have been an original glitch, my other issue is not and is not marked as resolved, which it is not as my game still glitches while mining.

Read the front page https://mojang.atlassian.net/browse/MC :
You can report bugs you've found in Minecraft using this bug tracker. If you're reporting bugs you've found in our Minecraft Launcher, you can do so here. This is not for help or support, please see this helpful article if you need help with Minecraft. If you need help with your Mojang account, contact our support team at help.mojang.com.
While I agree to the point that marking a bug as resolved before the reporter has a chance to respond is a bit of a bad practice, and rightfully shouldnt be marked that way without proper time alloted for the response.
Your reasoning that this is the technical support site based on the in game link is negated by the very first screen you come to when you are directed to/sign up for on this site: https://mojang.atlassian.net/secure/Dashboard.jspa
which clearly states in line one that:
"Using this issue tracker, you can report bugs you've found in any of our games. Please note: this is not for help or support, please use our games' official forums if you need help with any of our games."
Again. I can understand the frustration. But as I stated before while this is mojang's offical Bug reporting site, that this is also a public run bug site where people can try and solve bugs for other people that may or maynot be actually game related. I myself don't work for Mojang, but have enough understanding on the workings of games (minecraft included) that I have helped to solve several bugs that weren't actually bugs at all.
I'm not trying to argue a point that is agreed that bugs shouldn't marked as resolved when there still information needed and asked for, without giving time for the information to be given by the reporter. I think at the least they should be marked as open/incomplete (as one status) when information has been asked for, and the bug isn't blatenly incomplete :i.e. only info given is "Minecraft not working".
right, the reason why i call this site tech support is because this is where you report bugs to. i use the term loosely.
for instance. if i pop in Elder Scrolls and the game claims corrupted save data or crashes, and its the only game that does this, i would contact Bethesda's tech support and inform them of the issue. where as if i get a 3 rings flashing on the 360 i'd contact microsoft's tech support for info on how to fix the hardware.
tech support is two fold, reporting bugs to the company (this site) and FAQ on how to play the game (which this site does not do). perhaps there is a better word i can correctly call this site that more clearly fits it? either way i feel that this point is less productive and is more waxing of semantics. i just felt the need to clarify my position on the issue as to why i called the site tech support.
and while my other issue isn't fixed so easily, this question with the maps was and i appreciate the responses and help on the issue; though i do hope that Mojang considers putting this specific glitch back into the game as it makes exploring and not getting lost so much easier lol
The green marker is intended to tell you where maps in item frames are. If they persisted even after you removed the map from the item frame, then how would you remove a marker that you no longer wanted?
You can duplicate maps by crafting a map with an empty map. Both maps will be linked, updating as you carry one around. Even better, in multiplayer, you can share a map with someone, and you'll each be able to see where the other person is. Also, if you put a copy of a map in an item frame, everyone with a copy of the map can see the green marker on their own copy. This is how the feature is intended to work.
So where is the bug?
