Peaceful mobs will randomly despawn. I've had chickens, sheep, cows, horses, and donkeys randomly disappear from their pens. The horses and donkeys couldn't have walked away because they were all tethered.

Multiple bugs also reported in this, though you may not be aware due to the nature of what you are experiencing.
Secondary bug related to MC-14826
Neither of those are what I'm describing. The mobs do not despawn when I leave the chunk, they despawn at random whether or not I am in the chunk or not. I did use the search function and found nothing that describes what I have reported.
This issue is currently occurring in my seed on PS4. When I log out and return at a later time whole pens of animals are disappearing.
Here's some other details that might aid in identifying the issue & fixing it:
For multiple gaming sessions prior to this issue the same pens always remained the way I left them. It's not an issue of not building the pen properly or wolves eating my sheep etc.
At the same time I started experiencing this I started experiencing 2 other issues that might be related or the cause. #1 My leaderboard stats no longer update. #2 Sometimes when I die every single item I'm carrying when I die is irretrievable regardless of where I die or how fast I am to return to the spot where I died.
Bryan, your issue is invalid as it relates to the PS4 version of Minecraft, which has to be reported here.
