I'm not sure if this is a problem with my client or the server, (It happened on a server) but when I leave the chunk after setting up animal farms the animals are all gone. I retested this in several different locations and on several different servers, and every time I leave the chunk there seems to be a chance that the mobs despawn when I return. This happens with chickens, cows, mooshrooms, pigs, tamed horses, and untamed horses. This makes it insanely hard to do anythg with animals.

this happens with all animals, including tamed horses the only animal that I've seen unaffected by this is a tamed dog sitting down everything else can despawn and usually does. (even if it has a name tag) This needs to be fixed NOW!

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while ingame and attach the crash report here.

Never happened to me before since I've started playing minecraft half a year ago. Today I've lost 1 of 4 cows, all 3 sheep and probably some chicken in 1.6.2. Chicken coop was almost empty. When I restarted the game some chicken reappeared. Thank goodness the horses were all where they should be. I don't know if it's related but I also had some strange problems with pressure plates not working. Restarting the game always fixed this last one. I don't know if it makes any difference but I've spent a lot of time building roads in the nether right before this happened. To be honest I was playing minecraft with optifine (mcpatcher + optifine) installed when I noticed missing animals. I always do but I never had any optifine-related problems before. Switching to vanilla didn't bring the animals back. I've attached a crash report and a picture of my farm with missing animals. Should be 4 cows and 3 sheep in the farthest empty pen.

I have reasons to believe the problems described in my last post might be optifine-related. I switched to vanilla 1.6.2 a week ago and had no problems since neither with the animals nor with stuck pressure plates.

Can anyone confirm or negate Alexander Kirillov's observations ?
Everyone having this issue: Please force a crash by pressing F3 + C for 10 seconds while ingame and attach the crash report here and please ZIP / 7Z the world file and attach it here.

I cant post the world file because the problem I am having is on a server that is not mine, but I cant force the crash report. I'll get on minecraft and do that as soon as I can.
edit: I am not using optifine.

Personal Note: I can confirm, but it's not consistent. Can't find a direct cause, but had my 14 health horse w/ saddle disappear and be replaced by another random horse. Was no way one could have wandered out and another in. My breeding pen isn't anywhere near my stable. As well have had various animals display this behavior, either despawning or being replaced by a standard animal. Issue exists on MC 1.6.2 stand-alone server.

Couple questions to those watching this... sadly I am having difficulty testing at the moment as the 1.6.2 map we were using on my server, that I experienced the issue on, has been trashed for a new 1.7 map. I'm trying to test as I can in single player but of course this is one of those that is hard to reproduce.
Have you experienced this in any of the 1.7 snapshots?
Has this happened to horses you have bred?
Has this happened to horses you have NOT bred?

Haven't played snapshots enough, but when my whole herd of several dozed horses despawned in 1.6.2, it included both bred and not bred, saddled and unsaddled, horses that were fenced in and ones on leads. It was SSP.

I have never experienced this bug before, but I just entered my hardcore world after a few hours of playing creative mode, went outside of my mountain base and saw that the pen I had left my one and only horse in was empty. I'm 100% positive that I had left it there and in hours and hours of playing it has never managed to escape the pen on its own. I also checked all around the vicinity. No horse. Plus, I had used it only a minute or less before exiting that world earlier, so I know where it was and that it was fine (full health).
Attached crash log and screenshots of my empty pen. I'm really upset about this. I lost a saddle and a good horse (thankfully no horse armor). This is my hardcore world which I vowed not to cheat on. I can't manually respawn my horse (if I even knew how to). It's gone.
1.7.2
Java 1.6.0_51
Mac OS X 10.6.8
Note: I just realized this: I was booted from a different partition the last time I played in my hardcore world. That partition was running Mac OS X 10.7.5 and Java 1.7.0_40.
I have no mods installed, of course. In fact, I'm not even using any resource packs. My Minecraft is 100% vanilla. (and now 100% horse-less)

My own experience was very similar to Hawk J - I left my horse tied to a post and logged out. When I returned to the game poof horse with saddle gone and a search of the immediate area turned up nothing. This happened TWICE! Both times I was away from home base and left the horses tied to a post. The second time I had removed the saddle and put it in a near by chest, but when I logged back in the horse was gone and so was the saddle. Nothing else was missing from the chest. Just the saddle that had been on the horse that had just gone missing.
I reported the issue and MC-43844 was closed as a duplicate to this issue/thread.
Please fix this. It's kind of a bummer to be horseless and saddles aren't all that easy to come by.

I also want to add that this thing has happened again to me with a tamed wolf. It was following me as I exited a cave system to the surface and next thing you know it's gone. I looked all over the place and it was nowhere to be found. There's an infinitesimal chance that it fell into a deep, nearby pit and died on impact, but I cannot imagine how that could have happened without some other mob pushing it over the edge. I think that's extremely unlikely since there are only a handful of sheep and pigs scattered in the area and I consciously avoided getting too close to that pit because I play hardcore and don't have feather falling boots.
I have since abstained from taming more wolves or horses due to not wanting to waste time and effort on something that may keep vanishing. I'd really like to tame a donkey for easier item transportation, but I don't want to risk losing a lot of resources and a rare mob as long as this bug exists. In fact, I avoid the nearby plains biomes where I've spotted horses and donkeys for fear that they might despawn even without being tamed.
As you can see, Mojang, this bug is making a big part of the game (since 1.6, anyway) unenjoyable.

> Affects Version/s: Minecraft 1.5.2, Minecraft 1.6.1, Minecraft 1.6.2
1.7.4 is affected too.

14w02c is affected as well - whenever I save and exit with a horse right next to me, and open the map up in MCEdit, there's no entity next to me. Indeed, when I log back in, the horse and its saddle/armor are gone, as if they weren't saved in the level on exit (I searched the world for the horse's UUID from a backup; nowhere to be found).

I have been having this same issue on SMP i had a tamed saddled and armored horse vanish from a pen last time i checked tame animals never despawn naturally.
additionally livestock keeps vanishing from my farms including bred offspring
even stranger this bug also effects villagers who are never supposed to despawn and cannot spawn naturally aside from during chunk generation. it has gotten so bad that the server admins got tired of re spawning these mobs and just configured the server to spawn in chests of animal and villager eggs in the town hall XD.

This is also happening in the latest snapshot 14w06b
But I've only seen it happen to chickens
EDIT- and now all my cows are gone too.

Horses, sheep and cows have been despawning from inside a fence. This usually occurs whenever I save and quit then game and then return. The same animals do not appear to despawn while outside the fence. I am using windows 8 and the newest version of minecraft (downloaded about 2 weeks ago).

On recent snapshots the animals die from Suffocation, they are not despawning, they just die, when you save and quit and then return the enclosed animals sink on the ground and die after some seconds, it's a similar bug but i don't think is the same issue as this one.

I am having the same issue. It has affected villagers, pigs, and cows. It seems to happen when a mob is stuck inside of a wall. I traveled to the locations of two errors I had seen, and the coords listed in the last part of the error (1='World', X=# Z=# Y=#) were inside of a block. I think it is happening when a mob glitches inside of a solid block. (The ones I investigated were stone and a log, both opaque).
When a mob despawns, I get this message in console:
[13:11:30] [Server thread/WARN]: Wrong location! (5, -40) should be (5, -41), acf['Sheep'/435295, l='Snapshot World', x=88.31, y=65.00, z=-635.11]
Edit: this error was seen in Snapshot 14w30c

@@unknown: That's MC-2545

In a survival world all my cows despawned (they were in a safe enclosure) when I went down to bedrock. This is likely the cause for that.

I have had, on two occasions, horses disappear when loading the game. Everything else loaded fine, but the horses, with saddle and armor, did not. The first was named. The one today was/should have been in my field of view when the game was closed and opened. Both have been in 1.8.1 general release. Both were in fenced areas, with no walls for them to suffocate in. This is in single player survival.
Let me re-emphasize this. I was facing the horse when I quit the game yesterday, and on loading today, it was gone. No wandering off, or being loaded into a hill or wall. Just gone.

1.8.2-pre4 confirmed... My villagers of my villager breeder despawn... All of them... I hate had change to creative to fix it on my server survival 😞

Confirmed in 1.8.2-pre6. This bug can completely ruin custom maps with limited mobs, and really needs to be fixed.

Villagers have been despawning and there appears to be a correlation between which ones disappear and where the player is relative to them when logging in and out.
I have 4 DocM style iron farms within one render distance each built a few blocks below the sky box in a minimally spaced cross pattern centred on a beacon (~65 block village centre separation along the diagonal) . Is part of a spawn supressed parimeter base I am working on. All functioned well until I started working on a circular perimeter road with a 220 block radius centred on the same beacon. I normal load / unload the area from the same location (closer to the beacon than the farms, nether travel or login). My work on the road puts the farms at the edge of the render distance relative to my staging locations along the road (visible in the sky, parts of them appear / disappear depending on where I am standing). Villagers started despawning around when I started logging in and out in these locations. When it happens the whole 'pod' of villagers dissapear together and there appears to be a correlation between the number of empty 'pods' in an iron farm and how many times I would have logged in or out with it near the edge of the render distance. My trading villagers are located very close to the central beacon and none of them have disappeared.
Playing on a 1.8.1 server using 64bit windows 7.

i summoned some armor stands with a common name and after leaving that chunk that there were the ArmorStands, the armor stands started despawning. Please this needs to be fixed!

I built a base on my friend's server. He does have some plugins, but we think that it may be this bug. If it helps with the debugging process, we can let you investigate on the server. There is a pen that consistently keeps losing sheep. Maybe there is a way to observe what is going on and pinpoint the issue. It appears to happen when I stand within a few chunks of them for a long time and I am still online when it occurs. Also note, sometimes all the sheep disappear and sometimes just most leaving one to three. One time, when I returned to the pen, only 1/4 of the pen had sheep, like a perfect square. The entire pen seems to lie flush with a chunk though.

Confirmed for 1.8.4 singleplayer.

Confirmed for 1.8.6 SMP and SinglePlayer.

I have had 2 tamed donkeys disappear on me. One was named and the other not. This only happens in my home town stable which is near the spawn point, so maybe it has something to do with that, since I believe the spawn chunks load or unload differently. But it is very annoying to lose a named donkey with lots of things loaded onto it.
I am running 1.8.7 on Windows 8.

1.8.7 peaceful survival mode on a LAN connection with one other player. Tamed/saddled horse despawned after going through a nether portal and returning to area (about 5 minutes later). All untamed horses were still present, but saddled horse gone. (No name tag, no lead, not confined.)

This also happens with villagers in 15w42a

15w43a

I've had a similar experience with villagers disappearing from some simple iron-farms I've built. However, it seems that villagers placed in water (so that they bounce up and down) do not despawn. I noticed that my villager breeder setup (where they are all bouncing in water) do not lose villagers, even though they are crammed into a 1x1x3 space. Also got some villagers in a villager transfer tube (using water) who hasn't despawned despite being there for a very long time. So perhaps this is a temporary fix, at least until Mojang does something about it (Hopefully it will be fixed in 1.9)
EDIT: I am using MC 1.8.8 btw

I've had the same problem in 1.8.8. It is undescribably deep-cuttingly infuriating for me. I've had countless villagers and important name-tagged passive mobs randomly disappear on me. This has been happening since I can remember in Minecraft 1.8+

I can confirm this on 1.10-pre1 and yes this bug makes SMP unplayable.

Is this still an issue in the latest snapshot 16w44a? If so please update the affected versions.
This is an automated comment on any open or reopened issue with out-of-date affected versions.

I've had the same problem in 1.11.2. A endermite with a name tag has despawn

I had a recent issue where my 2 tamed horses (one saddled with armor, one unsaddled) disappeared after game crashed while I was in another chunk, and their leads vanished, but the fencepost with the tied-up portion of the lead was still there. If I try to grab the lead off the fence post, the lead does not drop itself.

I think this just happened to me on 1.11.2. lost cows, sheep, pigs AND villagers.

Happened to me on Realms, Windows 10 edition 1.0.3. Lost a big pen of cows and some chickens. Also, some sign text disappeared on 5 out of 6 signs on a wall - not sure if this is related. This was 3 separate instances.

@unknown this report is for the project MC (Minecraft Java edition), the project MCPE is for the Windows 10 and Pocket Edition.

I've got horses despawning as soon as I dismount, not when I leave the chunk, I submitted this as a bug but am told that it's been resolved but the issue still persists.
I name and armor horses and they are fine when in the stable, i.e. I can walk away a great distance and they are still there; but as soon as I ride them any distance and dismount, the horse immediately disappears. No other aspect of the game malfunctions as far as I have detected and most forums say that this problem is resolved by 1.11.2.
Environment:
Unmodded standard PC 1.11.2 version using Optifine on an HP notebook using Intel Celeron N3060 @ 1.60GHz
4GB Ram
64 bit
Windows 10

I just had three horses vanish in 1.12 when I re-entered the chunk they were in. Two were tamed, armoured, named horses, and one (their offspring) was untamed.
-My world is local singleplayer, updated to 1.12. The horses were still there when I first loaded my world in 1.12.
-The horses' pen is surrounded by wooden fence on three sides, and a cobblestone wall on the fourth side.
-I searched the land within a 50-block radius of the horse pen, but there was no sign of my horses.
-There is no evidence they suffocated. No drops were present in or around the pen.
-I have pigs, sheep, dogs, cats, etc. in the same chunk, and they were all there (minus a sheep that suffocated, as evidence by its drops...)
-I tried exiting and re-loading the world, but the three horses were still missing. (The horse I rode back on was still there.)
-Not sure if this is relevant, but the last thing I did in another chunk (animal-related) was tame and saddle another horse.

And when is this planned to be resolved? This is going around since 2013 and is a pretty common bug, really easy to happen...
Can anyone reproduce this in 1.12.1? I have not noticed it after playing months on a survival world, but it seems to be a bug that is hard to consistently reproduce.

I have not been able to reproduce

Confirmed for 1.12.2.
Two villagers (perfectly safe), one dog, and one horse simply disappeared.

Confirmed for 1.12.2. Whenever the chunk is unloaded, all my chickens despawn. No entities/items left. Reloading world does not help.

We have experienced this on survival Realms  - Windows 10 version 1.4.2. Multiple horses tied to a fence post with a lead have disappeared, and I tried taking the visible lead off the fence post after the horse went away, and no lead dropped. We have also had various animals disappear from fenced areas, migrate between nearby fenced areas, or just disappear while we were logged off.Â

Confirmed for 1.13.1.

Leave the game then re-open it, the crash disappears.
I had the same bug and when I do it, the mobs reappear.
They not despawn, they disappear.
Â

It also seems to happen in the opposite.. with me it happened when I got off my horse and it went invisible. It was touching the fence. But when I left out of render distance and returned, he was there again. For me it only happens with the horses and such. It happened with my wolves and cats a long time ago.

Still an occurrence with 19w08b. Spawned in 2 foxes, both tagged & added them to my team in a private server I play on with my friends. Both gone, including my horse which was housed next to them, and I was in the same chunk as them when I left. I've tested this a few times.

Does this still happen in the current release (1.14.2)?

Yes I have had named horse and my mooshrooms disappear
