Untamed wolves despawning seems to also affect 14w27b.

If you hold down for 2-3 seconds, you will have health restored. There is still no animation.

This bug exists in both Split Touch and Normal controls.
It is worth noting that you also cannot break blocks while holding food.

I am having the same issue. The food just swings in the air.

Confirmed: Applies to all heads and pumpkins. All armor, including leather that is dyed, is OK.
In a survival world all my cows despawned (they were in a safe enclosure) when I went down to bedrock. This is likely the cause for that.
