i created a small mob farm at a height of 90 blocks on top of my home hill in a ex hills biome. initially i encased it in a single layer of dirt. when finished i noticed a very slow spawn rate so i went and inspected it. With no torches or any other light sources i was reading a light level of 15. i encased it in 2 more layers of dirt and the light level dropped to norm for approximately 10 minutes. then lit back up to 15. step by step not possible since issue was intermittent. but i was able to log out of my game and log back in and light had reset to norm...log out and log in again and light back to 15. i enclosed myself within a 1X2 area of dirt within the affected area and light was at constant 0. have video of issue if you like but it is larger than 10MB. once i redesigned the farm and added pistons to it the issue appears to have corrected. Possibly a bug in light level updating resolved by the repeated light updates from the pistons?

Remember, Pistons are transparent.
Can you please attach screenshots (F3 !) ?
As previously stated, the issue was when there were No pistons as part of the design. That being said, even if there were pistons the whole area was encased in dirt so the piston transparency would have nothing to do with it. The issue resolved once i Added the pistons and redstone repeaters. Hence my thought that the regular lighting updates from the repeaters has actually fixed the issue. I will take screen captures once my video editing software is finished with it's present rendering job. The issue does not seem to be happening in game any longer as far as i can tell.
end of snapshots are time stamps from video (real world time). in first shot(2.44.55) i am at Y80 with a light lvl of 15. in fifth shot(2.47.07) i am at Y83 now with a light level of 6. last two shots (2.50.13 and 2.50.25) i am on same block within seconds of eachother. block lighting update visible on video. Can upload it to my youtube if you would like to see full footage.
edit: forgot to add- first 3 shots are with faithfulvenom32 texture pack. rest are with default pack.
and here is a small cut from the video i captured trimmed down and low quality but i think it should show the self corrections i had before rebuilding trap.

May relate to MC-911. Does this occur without any mods installed?
At this point i can not recreate the issue. tried making another box the same size on top of the original one(with optifine and without)but does not occur again, and original glitch was fixed when i redeisigned the trap so i can not check it with optifine removed. it did originally occur without rei's minimap installed (loaded that after i had built the trap. is not something i ususally have loaded). i will update if i have it happen again.
I've had this issue on prior versions, but not tested again in the latest. Basically I had built Monkeyfarms latest mob trap, but covered it with half slabs. Now usually, this would be not recommended, but it was mostly ok, except for one thing........water seemed to remember the light level being shone onto it at one point, and would radiate it even after the light was removed.
So looking in the room with the roof complete, there would be a lighter spot (shown by a higher BL on the debug screen) in one corner. So I'd remove the water, re-add it, and it would be fixed.
It was very flakey.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
