When you ride anything(boat, minecarts, pigs etc.) when you press F5 and then return to the normal first person view, you will notice that your hands are on the map and change their place. This bug is also noted in the minecraftwiki's "maps" page but I didn't see any created issues here... Anyways here are some screenshots:
Since 14wXX the corner of the map gets covered even when not riding a vehicle.

Not only after pressing F5. I pressed F1.
I can't always reproduce this issue by following the steps instructed above but around 90% of the time it happens while I'm riding a boat. Never happened when on foot. Makes exploring the left bottom corner of the map very hard since I can't see neither myself nor the map. I've tried re-installing the game by deleting the ".minecraft" folder but didn't solve the problem for me. My client version is 1.4.4 and it's a vanilla - not modded.
Actually this is an old issue existing since the map has been added i think but it never got fixed. It hope they fix this issue in 1.5 or another patch in 1.4
I didn't know that. I've been actually using maps since 1.4.4. I hope they will fix this soon. It makes it even harder when the map level is 5 since the hand covers a lot more bigger area then. On the other hand, I guess Mojang didn't even confirm this glitch yet, did they? Also, there are multiple reports here all regarding this same glitch.
Nope, they didnt confirm.
Still happening in v 1.5.1
Still happening in 13w25b, and just as annoying when exploring map. I don't know that 3rd person is the problem, because I didn't go into 3rd person. I can't find the cause, though, so keep on keeping on to find it, peers and devs.
Okay, here's how I reproduce the bug:
1. Jump into a boat.
2. Open Inventory.
The hand SHOULD be in front of the map.
Still happening in 1.6.1.
Happens to me whenever anyone on the server is riding a horse. Quite annoying. Good thing I don't go on highly-populated servers any more...
Each time I restart the client, maps appear correctly with both hands behind it, but opening the inventory causes the left hand to break through the map graphic and end up covering the bottom left corner. Restarting the Server and/or Client only temporarily fixes this.
No-one on the server is riding anything(no pigs, horses, donkeys, minecarts or boats) when this error occurs.
Running a server using 14w05b snapshot.
This has become a persistent problem. Now in snapshot 14w06b and I cannot get my hand to stop covering the map corner.
I observe this problem as well in 14w06b. Not sure if it's intentional now, that it's been around a while, but it effectively makes the lower-left-hand corners of maps useless while being in your hot-bar, and difficult to "fill out" for wall mounting.
I'm wondering if this bug report is even remotely accurate anymore.
In all of the 1.8 snapshots(anything after 1.7.4 update) I've been having a problem with my left hand coming through the map EVERY time I hold a map. It always happens, with no correlation to riding any entity. It happens in single player with the first map made and with every map after that.
Either this bug needs to be updated to reflect the fact that this bug has escalated, or we need a new bug report detailing the fact that this now happens as default.
Also - the hand doesn't come as far through the map as these pictures show anymore, and holding shift makes the left hand go back behind the map until you release it.
Edit: Deleted minecraft and re-installed.
Tested 1.7.5, used /give command to get an empty map and used it. Map worked normally.
Tested 14w08a, used /give command to get an empty map and used it. Hand glitched through map same as above picture(14w08a Map Glitch).
14w08a Map Glitch (attached picture)- Hand no longer shows full "finger" polygon face, but still interferes with the map.
In recent snapshots this happens all the time; not just when riding or changing view.
Indeed it happens all the time. Need someone to fix it instead of relating it to riding something or F5 issues.
