Hello! I had 9 bees, and then over the course of one in game day, I suddenly had 10 bees. None of them were baby bees, so I know I didn’t breed them on accident while moving some flowers around. They went into their hives, and seem to have duplicated while within the hives. I know there was one extra bee, as all three hives were full of three bees each and there was still one bee hanging around outside the hives unable to enter after the sun went down. Sigh, first it was villagers being overly prolific, now it’s my bees. What’s next, my singular polar bear? Is he going to suddenly become twelve polar bears? Mojang, please help, I don’t have room for all these extra bees. Thank you!

Hmm, well, I do know there shouldn’t be any bees migrating to the area, as my bees are contained in a fully sealed glass dome surrounding my house. I should also mention that I had to kill about 7 bees once before, thinking that something had caused them to multiply. That was just before I killed off all the rest of the bees and replaced them and their hives with 9 fresh bees and new empty hives. I should also mention that I have one bee named Bill, after Bee Keeper Bill from My Lego Network, and somehow I wound up killing two bees named Bill when I went to reset my bees, so that’s how I know they’re duplicating. And yes, those approx. 7 bees were all extras hanging out outside the hives at nighttime. I should mention that I am in creative mode, but am able to check the beehives by control+pick blocking the hives.
I’ll fire up the game again, and wait a few in game days and see what happens. My guess is that when a bee enters the hive and exits again, either the bee is counted twice upon entering, or the hive fails to recognize that said bee has left the hive, resulting in a duplicated bee. Either that, or when one leaves the area so that the bees stop rendering, somehow the game fails to recognize that the player has left, so although the bees are no longer rendered, they still can enter and exit the hive, resulting in the bees that were outside the hives when the player left going inside the hives while outside render distance only to remain outside the hives when the player returns as they once were, but still counted as inside the hives.
I’ll also check my apiary, which is separate from the main dome, but if I find a swarm in there, then I know I’m not crazy, as I haven’t been over there in a little bit, but it is close to the main dome, so if the bees are to duplicate then it should happen there, by a lot, given that I have three hives at my main base and 8 hives in the apiary, so if I’m right, the bees should be swarming in there.
I’ll double check and get back to you. Rockatoa, Brickticks out!
Went to my apiary, all 8 hives had their maximum of three bees in them, AND AT LEAST 30 BEES SWARMING INSIDE THE APIARY OUTSIDE THE HIVES!!! I'm saying this more out of shock than anything else, as there should only have been 24 bees, total, and now there looks to be close to 50. I’m going to have to kill a whole lot of bees now and cull my honey production, until this is fixed.
Here’s an idea, try building an apiary, one that’s fully enclosed, and put down 8 hives, (with campfires, obviously, and not nests), and fill those hives up with the maximum amount of 24 bees, that’s three for each hive. Leave the game running, not on pause, and wait a couple hours, there should bee a whole lot more bees after that couple of hours. Just make sure that the apiary is fully enclosed, with no way for any bees to fly in or out. Just sit there and wait, or maybe go do something else nearby for a couple of hours. That should do it. You’ll know there’s too many bees if at night some bees can’t get into the hives. Oh, and use creative mode, that should help too, in single player, and maybe even go bake yourself some cookies IRL while you wait.
Anyways, I gotta go, I’ve got about 50 bees in total to clear out of my apiary, that includes the ones in the hives, and by the time I get done with that, I’ll probably have to go clear out 10-12 bees from my main dome, even though there are only supposed to be 9 in there.
