Recreational Minecraft player on MacBook Air Java 1.21.5. Not techy and not a pro with Minecraft (i’ve never beat the Ender Dragon). My problem could be just user error.
Anyway, I can’t place blocks down. I use two fingers like I always did but it won’t work. I tried restarting my laptop, won’t work, left the game alone for a few days to weeks, still won’t work. Created a new world, survival and creative, and I still can’t place blocks down. Not even a bed. Everything else that I know of works. I can break blocks. Googled and the Google AI told me stuff I can’t understand, but it did tell me to make sure not to be sneaking. That’s crouching or shifting, I think, and your view gets closer to the ground.
Render distance is at max at 12 or something. I like seeing into the distance. I have no mods installed just vanilla minecraft. A few customization tweaks but that’s about it.
Thank youuu
(P. S. Mojang, please add a coordinates option like they have in my brother’s Playstation version. It’d be so helpful, thank you again)

If you can break, but not place, you should definetly make sure your right-click is bound. To check this, follow these steps:
Enter a world → press ESC → click Options → click Controls → click Key Binds → Now click on the field on the bottom left: “Reset Keys”. Now your right-clicking should work again. If it doesn’t, check if your mouse button generally works.
On mac you can ctrl+click to right-click, or rebind the keybind

Not sure why you can’t right-click with 2 fingers on touchpad though
