Tested in 13W38c, still broken. You should update the affected versions. I'd do it myself but thanks to the Jira reporting system and the closing of duplicates the first person who reports a bug has to do everything.
Also, here's what I'd consider a better description:
----------------------------------------
Whenever a tree spawns and vines occupy the space where wood would appear, the wood fails to replace the vines, resulting in a deformed trunk. This happens both to trees naturally spawning in biomes containing vines (jungles and swamps) and when trees grow from saplings. Clearly this is an issue in the tree-spawning algorithm and a simple fix, simply cause wood to overwrite vines when trees grow.
Steps to duplicate:
Simply attempt to grow any tree with vines directly above the sapling (Easiest to duplicate by growing a 2x2 jungle tree and then growing another 2x2 jungle tree directly next to it.). The tree will spawn but vines will replace some wood blocks.
One can confirm that this also effects naturally generated tree by exploring a jungle biome. Natural jungle trees are frequently corrupted by this bug.
This annoying bug still be unresolved in pre-release 1.7!!! Nobody in Mojang has fixed it! World seed: 233751498, coords x:111590, z:33743. Jungle is really the rarest biome, it's hard to find it.
The reason of the bug is "Growing trees cannot replace vines with their logs".
No one will live now in jungle biome, so it is ugly-generated. I hope this bug not live up to Release 1.7 =/
Still an issue in 1.7.2, and presumably the snapshot too because the changelog is devoid of bugfixes.
Is this still an issue in the current Minecraft Snapshot 15w47c or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I Have been looking around in an infinite jungle from a customized vanilla world for about 15 minutes and coun't find one instance of the bug.
Seems fixed to me 🙂
You don't even have to find a jungle. It's easy to see if you grow a jungle tree right next to another jungle tree- whenever a tree tries to generate wood and it sees vines it fails to replace the vines with wood. Also, I took this in 13w37b so it's still not fixed.
