The fix for MC-276861 now makes the player die before crossing the end portal after falling too fast, or going trough very fast with an elytra.
If the player dying after touching the end portal while falling too fast is supposed to happen, then it should at least happen after the player has gone through the end portal, not before, since this results in the player’s items ending up in the spawn chunks instead of the player’s spawnpoint.
