Breaking an ice block shows no cracking texture unless viewed through a boat. This is the case regardless of whether or not the player is currently in the boat, and works with both normal and chest boats.

This issue duplicates MC-118561 . The block breaking animation should actually be shown, the issue is that the ice is not rendering. The ice does not render because of the aforementioned issue.
