Horses with black dots do not render their black dots

Horses with black dots as their markings do not render their markings.

How to reproduce:

  1. Execute the following command:

    /summon minecraft:horse ~ ~ ~ {Variant:1024}

Replace “1024” with any number from 1024 to 1030 to get differently colored horses.

  2. Observe the summoned horse.

Expected result:

Horses with black dots would render their black dots.

Observed result:

Horses with black dots render as if they had no markings (variants 0-6).

Original description:

Hello again! Like I just said in my last bug report, I’m making this bug report about the horse textures being bugged, and once again I should like to say that I think it make be linked to my previous bug report about villager’s wearing very fashionable if not very practical green overcoats, but still…

Anyways, horses. It would seem that randomly but based off of the horse’s base color, that horses would have their textures, erm, dismantled… What I mean by this is best described as follows: So, one of my horses, Bedrock, so named because his back texture, meaning the black spots pattern of a grey base coat, when I booted up my world seemed to have his pattern set to the default, patternless grey base coat texture instead of his grey basecoat with black spots pattern that he should have! I also check another yet to be named horse who was also a grey base coat, and his texture was also swapped to the same default patternless grey base coat horse texture. Another horse, named Black Stallion, was also affected, and somehow wound up loosing his white socks on black basecoat pattern, becoming a pure black base coat without patterns in the process, with only his eyes visible. I admit this didn’t seem to bother Black Stallion very much, and he seemed ok with it, but poor Bedrock was absolutely distraught with it.

Later, after I had quit and relaunched the game, Bedrock had his black spots on grey base coat pattern back, and Black Stallion had his white socks again, only problem was that now, my cream colored horse with white field pattern how had the default patternless cream base coat color, which seemed to resolve itself after a second exit and relaunch, only for Bedrock and the other grey base coat horse to return the the patternless grey basecoat.

This seems to have affected other horses as well, as I noticed at least one unnamed chestnut horse of note that was supposed to have a black spots patterned had become the patternless chestnut basecoat instead, only to gain it’s black spots back upon exiting and relaunching.

Like I said previously, this issue seems to be linked to perhaps the same bit of code that’s causing the previously reported villagers to appear with green overcoats based on biome type.

Anyways, this is all! Rockatoa, Brickticks out!

P.S. And yes, just like with the villagers, this was also occurring when under the use of Programmer Art.

Environment

Windows 11, Nvidia 4090, Java was updated recently, and I'm now having the feels for poor Bedrock, as all he wanted was to look like his favorite block, bedrock, of which is back texture resembles. Also, I'm still not happy that the villagers didn't invite me or my horses to their fashion show.
