When I put a spruce fence into the copper chest, the copper golem took it out and did not place it in the correct chest, the correct chest did have spruce fences in the chest but for some reason the golem did not put it into the correct chest, the chests were the same distance away.

However if the golem placed the fence in an empty chest, that's how it works, the golem searches for the nearest chest that is empty or that has a corresponding item
