The appearence of the missing texture no longer changes when Anisotropic Filtering is enabled

When anisotropic filtering is enabled in release 1.7 (specifically versions 13w38a to 14w21b inclusive), the missing texture will change from a 2x2 checker to a 4x4 checker. This effect is even displayed on the official 14w10a release banner: https://web.archive.org/web/20140307083916/https://mojang.com/2014/03/minecraft-snapshot-14w10a/

25w44a’s anisotropic filtering setting, however, does not appear to have this effect.

To reproduce:

  • open any snapshot in the original version range (I’m using 14w17a)

  • view the missing texture via a command: /setblock ~ ~ ~ stone 7 and/or /give @p end_portal

  • compare how these look with and without anisotropic filtering

  • now open the latest snapshot

  • view the missing texture via a command: /give @s minecraft:stone[minecraft:item_model=""]

  • compare how this looks with and without anisotropic filtering

Expected results: with anisotropic filtering off, we get a 2x2 checker, and with it on, we get a 4x4 checker.

Actual results: we get the expected results in 13w38a to 14w21b, but not in 25w44a
