If you use Lunge while going upwards on a ladder, nothing will happen but Lunge will still take your hunger and durability.

Use Spear with Lunge of any level while on a Ladder
Expectations
There are 2 solutions here
1. Just do nothing if using Lunge while on Ladder
2. Make so that Lunge enchantment can lunge you upwards or downwards while on Ladder
Lunge didn’t work on ladders at all. We have fixed the issue by allowing players to use the Lunge. Lunge only adds momentum in the X-Z plane, so you have to be looking not directly up to benefit from Lunge. This is intended behaviour of Lunge.
