As you can see in the video below. Vindicators use spears as they where swords. And they don’t use their features like charging properly. When the vindicator got the speed effect, which is expected to increase the damage, it does not however. Which is pretty strange.
How 2 reproduce:
1. run the command /summon vindicator ~ ~ ~ {equipment:{mainhand:{id:"minecraft:iron_spear",count:1}}}
2. make the vindicator hit you (shield, regen effect, and/or totem recommended to avoid death)
3. as you can see, the vindicator treats the spear as it is a sword
Edit: I tried the command above but replaced vindicator with husk and found that not only the husk used the spear mechanics properly, but also made the spear’s hit sound that makes a “clink!”

This is a feature request. Only zombies, zombie villagers, husks, piglins and zombified piglins know how to use spears, just like only skeleton-type mobs know how to use bows and only pillagers know how to use crossbows.
Sorry @clamlol, this is NOT a feature request, I don’t mean that vindicators spawn naturally with spears, all I mean is make them know how to use spears to make them consistent with piglins and undead, even if it’s only with commands.
Take the look at wither skeletons, they always spawn naturally with stone swords, but they can equip bows using commands and use them normally.
