The icons for regular filled maps and buried treasure maps are indistinguishable

The item icons for regular filled maps and buried treasure maps are identical. This is because buried treasure maps don’t specify a map_color component, causing them to default to the regular filled map color. This is also inconsistent with all other structure maps in the game (ocean explorer, trial explorer, plains village map etc), which use a custom map color for their item icons, as well as with Bedrock Edition, which has a unique item sprite for treasure maps.

How to reproduce

  • Obtain an empty map and activate it.

  • Obtain a buried treasure map by exploring shipwrecks or ocean ruins, or alternatively by running the command /loot give @s loot minecraft:chests/shipwreck_map - make sure you are in a default world where buried treasures can spawn (avoid superflats or single biome worlds)

  • Observe their item sprites.

Expected result

  • The two different items would be visually distinguishable.

Observed result

  • The two different items are visually identical.

Suggested fix

  • Specify a map_color component for buried treasure maps, such as 6773421 which is the shade of blue used by treasure maps in Bedrock Edition.

Can confirm - 1.21.11 Pre-Release 2

~ Happy to help!

Make sure to test in a default world and not in superflat. If buried treasures cannot generate (as is the case in void superflat worlds), you get a regular map instead of a treasure map.

My bad! Can confirm - 1.21.11 Pre-Release 3
