I had just created a new world when I noticed that my render distance was shorter than before. I looked in my video settings and it said my render distance was on far so I set it to short and the distance was the same. When you set your render distance to far, the fog moves to the right distance but the chunks stop at normal render distance. This occurs in both 13w36a and 13w36b.

Confirmed:
Far: Rendering as normal, fog appears to move out to correct distance.
Normal: Working, but fog starts past render distance.
Short: Working as designed
Tiny: Working as designed
I certainly hope they fix this in the next snapshot. I like my render distance on far.

Far draw distance renders at normal distance in front of the player and around.
When traveling long distances distance far chunks remain loaded until looked at.
When many chunks are loaded behind you after traveling a distance the chunks in front of you will not load until you look at the chunks behind you and let them unload.
Hey Talven81, I was wondering, should edit the description to include what you said about the chunks not loading until you turn around and unload the chunks behind you?

You can leave it, the devs check the comments, and I have access to edit anything about the ticket. As well the chunk load thing is probably a secondary reaction to the draw distance problem, was just describing the whole thing. See MC-129 .
Tested and confirmed we are back to normal on this one. 13w38a provides a nice new feature in relation to this issue, but you'll have to find out for yourself what it is. 🙂
Well, you can reopen it. Because in new system we still have this bug. It's okay from 1 to 8 chunks render distance settings, but on 9 to 16 it still displays as far, as on 8. Fog looks like move further on further settings, but distance doesn't change after 8. I made ticket about it MC-31622
I will re-test this on my good system later, however this ticket will not be reopened. The reason for this is the latest snapshot at best would invalidate this ticket as the rendering distance setup along with many other new features has been changed. However I will leave MC-31622 open and relate this ticket to it.
