Kelp very visibly flickers at high render distances. Texture filtering settings do not help to alleviate the issue.
Reproduction Steps:
- Set your render distance to 32
- Find an ocean biome
- Fly away so the ocean biome is at the very edge of your render distance
Observed Results:
- The distant kelp flickers
Expected Results:
- Kelp wouldnβt flicker
Suggested Fix:
- Kelp should not be animated below a certain screen size. Once itβs far enough away to be the size of a single on-screen pixel the animation should stop.

After consideration, the issue is being closed as Won't Fix.
Please note that this is not the same as Working as Intended, as this bug report correctly describes behavior in the game that might not be the intended or desirable behavior, but it will not be fixed right now. Sometimes, this is because the issue reported is minor and/or impossible to change without large architectural changes to the code base.
