The two boxes are placed side by side facing forward but cannot be combined into a larger box.Tried many times, but it's still the same.

Are you using any add-ons or resource packs? If so, could you provide a complete list of them?
Are you using any modifications or texture packs?
Have you tried reinstalling the launcher and the Minecraft game? (Remember to create backup files before doing so.)
Does this issue still occur in a new world without any addons?
