In previous versions, you could use a lead to make mobs follow you closely while running. However, the lead in the new version has a bug: if you run as before, the mob will be pulled against the side of a block and float in mid-air. Because it leaves the ground, it cannot jump onto the block and gets stuck until the lead breaks from you continuing to run. This bug causes a poor gameplay experience.
Environment
Use a lead to tie up a mob and run uphill.

I've noticed this fairly often too. I don't think sprinting specifically is the problem, I'm pretty sure its more that the pathfinding while leashed is really bad at understanding when to go up a block.
Sometimes it feels like the leashed mob is trying to get to the closest block to the player without increasing it's y-coordinate before it jumps, even if the path to get to such a position falls outside of the leads range.
Thank you for your report!
