After the last update all of my maps, regardless of their placement (cartographer villager’s trade option ones as well), lost their IDs and have been set on “unknown map”, while retaining their visual information. They get back their correct ID number if I place them in an inventory slot (but not in a carried satchel), but they lose it again when I log out of the game. This has created issues also in a trade with a new cartographer villager, who traded me a trial explorer map set towards a trial chamber I had cleared already, for which I had obtained and used another trial explorer map (with a different ID) from a different villager. Now I have two identical maps with different IDs; the same I fear will happen every time the maps lose their IDs and that I will be stuck pointed at spots that’s been explored already.
Create &/or possess maps, each with their own ID. Log out of the game, then log in again.
One would expect they keep their ID numbers. One would expect new traded explorer maps, obtained from different cartographer villagers, to be different from the ones in possession and completed already.
Every map get set to and shown “unknown map” status instead of its own ID. The tradeable explorer maps behave as if a previously obtained and completed one is not existing, resulting in having identical explorer maps with different IDs and preventing new explorations.

Sorry, but I differ of it being a duplicate of MC-157590, although having the same effect. The other issue says clearly it happens “sometimes” and not systematically on logout. Thanks for this though: “It is also an issue in the latest snapshot 26.1-snapshot-4”
This matches MC-157590. Maps lose their ID and show as “unknown map” after logout unless they are in a player’s inventory, which is the same behavior described here.
It is also an issue in the latest snapshot 26.1-snapshot-4.
