Items can be enchanted, However the only thing that persists is the graphic effect of the enchant. Enchanted items don't retain the properties of their enchant.
Issue only occurs to items enchanted in 13w36a, Items enchanted in earlier versions work as normal.
Just noticed this issue is resolved in 13w36b
