Blocks sometimes remain visible after breaking

After breaking blocks, the blocks remain rendered for a few seconds. This is not the case in 1.21.11 and it appears to be introduced since 26.1-snapshot-7 (I can’t say for sure, but I think I am not able to reproduce with snapshot 6, and definitely can reproduce with snapshot 7).

Setting the Chunk Builder to Fully Blocking seemingly fixes the issue.
Setting the Chunk Builder to Semi Blocking reduces the effect of the issue: Only neighbor blocks are affected (e.g. breaking a block below a flower, replacing a tall grass block, placing bed, opening door).

Steps To Reproduce

  1. Create a new world with the seed -515614913474420693

  2. Set Chunk Builder to Threaded

  3. Teleport to village at -2050, 50 /tp @s -2050 100 50

  4. Place and break a few blocks (mostly at the locations where it fails in the video as well)

Edit (26.2-snapshot-1)

This bug occurs regardless if Vulkan or OpenGL is used as graphics API.

Environment

Kubuntu 25.10, Linux, Wayland, Nvidia GTX 1080, Intel Core i7-14700KF

Can confirm for 26.1-pre-1

Just tested on my Laptop with Ubuntu 25.10 and Mesa with Intel UHD Graphics 630, bug occurs, but looks like it’s happening less often.

Another issue I’ve noticed, which seemingly is caused by the same unknown root cause is that chunk loading is pretty slow. Initial spawn chunk loading is fine, but after reloading chunks only the chunks directly around the player load properly and every other chunk takes very long to load or will only load after I looked around or moved. This feels pretty much the same as with the blocks not disappearing as they usually disappear when moving the mouse again, and this issue got introduced in 26.1-snapshot-7 as well.

Although MC-307623 is resolved, this is not fixed with 26.2 snapshot 5
