i’ve just started playing in the new update for almost an hour now and i’m experiencing a severe loss of fps (10~25 instead of the usual ~70) and a serious lag, even though my laptop holds 8Gb ram and can handle the new 4Gig allocation.
Environment
as i said, my current device supports 8Gb ram, which normally should be enough...

@[MCQA] DaFron i only use a self-made light texture pack that doesn’t require optifine, no additional mods or datapacks.
I have 7.9Gb ram (3.7 shared and 4.2 normal, which are used under only one profile), an average CPU of 30~40% (which can quickly rise to 90% when i startup the newest version) only around 9-12 ping and a graphics card of 496Mb, those aren’t great but should do fine.
for some reason, i’m unable to make any recording app work while mc is open (maybe because my CPU and GPU rise to 90%+) but i can describe it:
Everything goes smoothly until i enter a world, my C- and GPU entirely go berserk and my casual 60~70 fps drops with huge lag spikes, blocks i break immediately get replaced and take a couple seconds to disappear and drop an item, even other apps suffer deadly lag when the game (v 26.1) is open…
Yes, this also happens to me. Makes me want to go back to the previous version just to have smooth gameplay. I play on vanilla on a MacBook air m2, with render distance on 8 and fps 60. It happens once every 30 seconds or so… quite strange.
According to other community reports, LWJGL, the rendering library used by Minecraft, switches its MemoryUtil back-end from Unsafe to FFM on Java 25. However, JIT in Java 25 seems can’t works well with FFM back-end, and causing performance issue.
So theoretically, if you try to launch older version with Java 25, and this issue also appears, then we can confirm this issue is related to the back-end switch.
Developers of LWJGL and other community members are still investigating this issue on Github: https://github.com/LWJGL/lwjgl3/issues/1111
Yes thats exactly! Just read the link. Totally my problem here. Game is difficult to play with the lag.
It’s not just framerate: I typically only get ~30-50 fps in 1.21.11, with semi-frequent drops to 15-25 fps (or even lower when flying), but in 26.1 not only did I not clear 10 fps at all, the in-game menu is also lagging in a way I never get in 1.21.11 - my actual cursor is lagging and even once it moves to a button it doesn’t light up immediately (as opposed to 1.21.11, which is much smoother).
Also I’m not sure how to explain this, but in 1.21.11 I’m able to cope with the low fps because the game is still responding to my input at the same speed (I just can’t see what I’m doing very well), but in 26.1 the whole game seems to be operating at slower speeds, so my movements are lagging as well
I deleted some of the libraries and assets in the .minecraft folder in roaming (appdata) and now it’s smoothly again (60+ fps like usual)
Same here, i tested almost all 26.1 snapshots and this happened, today i started playing the release and still happens, it almost freezes my computer. Playing in 1.21.11 was fine with 60 fps
