Significant performance regression with the Vulkan rendering backend

Noticed a severe FPS regression in the latest snapshot compared to last one. Using new vulkan renderer.

Environment

OS: Kubuntu 25.10, modified with kisak mesa PPA to get latest arc drivers, Intel Arc B580 GPU, AMD Ryzen 5 3400G CPU

After testing for a while, I am able to confirm this

I’ve noticed performance degradation in the latest snapshot (26.2 Snapshot 2 as of writing)

I have had the same issue with 26.2 snapshot 1 and 2, as well as the a lesser issue with the previous snapshots.

26.2.snapshot 1&2 are not playable due to the significant lag from the time you click a tool or weapon until the actual action happens. To be honest, even the 26.1 I noticed I can no longer crit hit with the axe to, for example, kill cows. The downgrade is bad enough now I’m not able to play the worlds in these versions.

My situation seems a bit different from yours. In snapshot1 and snapshot2, the frame rates under the Vulkan API don’t show much difference, but in snapshot2, the frame rate with the OpenGL API appears to be significantly higher than with Vulkan (in the same scene, Vulkan API gets around 400 fps, while OpenGL reaches about 800 fps). I’m not quite sure what’s causing this. CPU: 12400F, GPU: B580.

My operating system is Windows 11 24H2, and the graphics driver is the official 8629 WHQL version.

However, I also noticed that your GPU doesn’t seem to be working properly in snapshot2, with only 2% utilization.
