Sulfur caves can eventually become overgrown with sulfur spikes

The bug

If you have a world with a sulfur caves biome and the area around this biome is loaded, it can eventually become overgrown with sulfur spikes given enough time.

This is a similar issue to MC-236903, which was the case for cave vines generating in lush caves and was eventually fixed. However, due to how sulfur spikes lack a proper age blockstate to avoid this situation, eventually the player may encounter a sulfur cave heavily obstructed by speleothems.

How to reproduce

  1. Find a sulfur cave.

  2. Change the game’s random tick to some high number (/gamerule random_tick_speed 6000).

  3. Let the game tick for around 10 minutes or so.

Expected result

The sulfur cave would remain almost unchanged.

Observed result

Most of the sulfur cave is now obstructed by sulfur spikes.
