Lava Level hardcoded in World Generation

After spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to make my world deeper via a datapack, I came to realize there is no way to change the level that lava pools at the bottom of the world.

I then noticed in the class net.minecraft.world.level.levelgen.NoiseBasedChunkGenerator in the method createFluidPicker I see this:

Aquifer.FluidStatus lavaStatus = new Aquifer.FluidStatus(-54, Blocks.LAVA.defaultBlockState());

This tells me that the lava level is hardcoded at -54 and all caves below that level are filled with lava.

I know that Minecraft supports dropping the Y level down to around -2k, but that seems virtually useless if the caves are full of lava.

This should be something that the datapack can handle… just like how everything else in world gen can be handled in a datapack.

Thank you for your time!

I don't know why this would be considered a feature request.

Datapacks allow us to set the Y to as far down as -2032…. but when doing that, the caves fill with lava, thus making this configurable value useless.

It seems odd to give us that ability to lower world height but also have a hardcoded limit for lava.
